Ole Smoky Distillery can be a really fun place to eat, drink and hangout, especially on warm weather days. This establishment features a variety of dining and entertainment options, including a variety of bars, a whiskey and beer garden, a dining room, and a variety of souvenir shops. Its live entertainment and large-screen televisions are also available. Guests can also enjoy beverages and snacks by the glass. Now, I am going to be honest, you may not see many of us, Black folks, there but this place is amazing for large groups. If you have a large group that wants to get out to enjoy small bites, games, and drinks, this is a dope spot for a chill gathering. Parking sucks and is a little expensive but there are plenty of parking lots that may have reasonable pricing within walking distance. If you are in town visiting it is in…

Being a woman who is Black and gay is nothing like being a woman, being a Black woman, or even simply being Black. Adversity comes with being a woman, being Black, and especially being a Black woman. Unlike Black men, Black women deal with adversity from men of all colors including Black men. Unlike white women, Black women deal with adversity because they are Black. Adding a dash of gay in the mix changes the game because not only do you deal with adversity for being Black and a woman, now you deal with adversity from Black women simply because you like the same sex. Do we need to make a list? Adversity can come from some or all of these places; non-Black men, non-Black women, black men, and straight Black women. Although there is a lot of adversity to talk about, let’s focus on the most important. As Black…

So this is my fourth week working from home. For many Nashvillians, they did not see this coming the way that I did because my entire family is in California. Most of them in Oakland experienced a Shelter-In-Place before any other area had even heard of it. I knew what was on the horizon but like many of us, I was not prepared for what was coming the next few weeks and it is taking a toll on me mentally. Oh, and all the eating is trying to take a toll on me physically lol. All, and all, I was desperate to find something to make my life feel normal again.. well as normal as it could feel. After a week or so at home, I started to experience chest pain, it felt like someone had kicked me with two feet in my chest. Now, I didn’t have any restricted…

An old friend who recently moved back to Nashille explained to me that she used to try and compare Nashville to home (California) but after moving back home she realized Nashville is a cool city. She couldn’t see it before because I was trying to compare the two but later she saw the dopeness. This made me think, Nashille IS pretty dope. With the beautiful weather on the rise, the hotline has been blinging… you know friends wanting to hang out or long lost socialites who hide during the winter. This is the time of the year that sets the standard for the summer and here we are with long lines, no parking (day or night), packed malls, and no seats in bars and night clubs. Man, how I love this time of year!! Nashville has so much to offer, I mean, I know it’s not a LA, ATL, Miami…

After living in Nashville for almost 11 years, I have stumbled upon an underground or secret society of culture. For some of those 11 years, I was stuck in the same environments doing the same things and complaining about the lack of culture in the city. During that period culture might not have come close to what is happening in the city now. Others like me were seeking something different and relevant to their personalities and the desires of their soul. Because let’s face it, culture comes from a mix of hardships and soul. People develop creativity by expressing how they feel in many different fashions. Some people paint, sing, dance, graffiti, write or however they deem necessary. So, for someone like me, finding this secret society of culture in Nashville is great….. Except… gentrification could potentially kill what has become. Gentrification is very big and in your face in…
