If you have been on social media and your feeds look like mine you have seen plenty of people visiting Tulum. Tulum is one of the most popular destinations in Mexico and rightfully so. The town is giving luxury and adventure, and is home to some of the best eco-tourism in the world.
Found on the Riviera Maya, this small town is known for its wide array of luxurious resorts, world-class diving, and more. But it’s not just about the beaches and the diving; there is so much more to see and do in Tulum. If you’re looking for an adventure, Tulum got it. There is hella exciting things to do in the area, such as zip lining, hiking, and horseback riding. If you’re looking for cheaper things to do, Tulum got that too because it has plenty of things to do for free. You can visit the beaches, the cenotes, and the Mayan ruins all for free, or almost free.
Tulum is like Cancun without all the tourism and youngins. It has a bit of everything that can suit any traveler’s needs. Despite being a smaller city there are many developed neighborhoods without losing its local touch. Black in Tulum, offers a weekly event for Black travelers while highlighting many other activities for Black travelers in Tulum. And, if you are a hookah person, ugh (yes, I’m judging lol), plenty of the beach clubs have hookah. Despite reports of heavy cartel activities in Mexico, I felt very safe while in Tulum and even as a Black American. We can talk more about travel safety another time tho.
