We are something like friends, right? I would say so. Since we are friends I want to hold you accountable for the things you say you are going to do. If you are here, you want to save money and I am here to support you in this. We are in this together! With that being said here are some of my favorite apps and tips

Table of Contents

Digit

Digit uses an algorithm that takes the money you would not notice from your bank account and saves it in an FDIC-insured savings account. I have saved over $5000 with Digit since April 2017. Some days digit may take no money, .$0.03, or even $5.67. I have never noticed the money Digit takes out in the three years I have used the service. You can withdraw your money instantly for $0.99 or free (up to 3 Business Days).

Prism Money

Prism lets you log into all your online Bill’s accounts and it will make sure you never miss a bill Prism sends you reminders of when your Bill’s are due and you can pay them directly from Prism easiest way to pay all your bills.

Credit Karma

Although credit karma doesn’t give you your FICO score, their score and the apps other resources give you plenty of tools to work on, and build, etc your credit

Self

Self Lender is like a forced savings plan that helps you build credit. You make monthly payments and they will report the payments to the major credit bureaus like a personal loan once you have paid off the “loan”, you will receive all of the money.

example: a “$500” loan from Self lender. will report as a personal loan to the credit bureaus BUT you will NOT receive any $$ upfront make installment payments once the $500 is paid off.. they will give you $500 because it is yours.

Credit Union Bank Account

Open an account at a credit union. do the bare minimum to keep the account open without fees this will save you in interest rates when it’s time to buy things like a car credit unions typically can give a better interest rate on a loan.

Have Three Accounts

Keep 3 accounts [excluding the credit union account]

  • Bill’s account – deposit just enough to cover Bill’s will a slight cushion
  • Savings account – dedicate a minimum amount you deposit each check
  • Spending account – deposit the difference. whatever is left in your spending account by the next time you get paid roll it over to your savings

401K

I know some people hate these.. but if you can get one through work and your job matches. try to contribute the maximum matching amount if your job matches 3%.. put in at least 3% if you are comfortable on your income put in half of all raises into your 401k.

Brandless

Everything is LITERALLY $3!

RetailMeNot

Coupons, coupons, and more coupons for in-store and online coupons. I don’t make a single purchase without checking for a coupon first.

Offer Up

It’s like Craigslist but less sketchy annnnnnnddddd now you can buy things from people nationwide and it will tell you how much shipping is also!

Cash App

Well because it’s easy to collect money from people. planning a group trip, paid for someone’s meal at a cash-only spot and they only have a card, let someone borrow money… Cash App makes collecting that money easy!

Budget Bytes

Want to know how to make the most of being broke and grocery shopping? Budget Bytes website breaks down how much each meal cost and the recipe.

WikiBuy

If you shop on a computer and use Chrome, this is the best extension to add. When you are looking at an item, Wikibuy will let you know whether you have the best price or if you can find it cheaper. Beware that it does not consider shipping. Also, when you get to checkout WikiBuy will check to see if any coupon codes apply and will manually try each discount code within seconds. Lastly, my new favorite feature is that Wikibuy will also give you cashback on purchases at certain stores!!!

Mercari

Much like OfferUp, you can buy and sell items on Mercari, typically cheaper than brand new. They ship from anywhere around the country.

TrueBill

I have a love-hate relationship with TrueBill. TrueBill will scan your bank account for recurring payments to let you know who all you are paying. Sometimes we sign up for so many services we forget what we are paying for at the time. TrueBill will also renegotiate some of your bills but will want a third of your total savings (for a year) as the fee upfront. I personally only use TrueBill to see what all I am paying to cancel services I no longer need. If I use TrueBill to renegotiate a bill for me, I will update this with my experience.
